Ludbreg - center of the world
LUDBREG – CENTER OF THE WORLD!
30.03.-03.04.2016
Old
Romans, appreciating the good geographic position, built Castrum Iovia in the
place of today’s Ludbreg.
It was a town equipped with complete infrastructure,
a roman forum and termae (baths), which quickly became an economic
and transportation center, and upon whose foundations Ludbreg as we know it
today was later built.
From that time origins the legend saying that from this
place "rims of the world” were drawn, and all the large world centers built
upon them…
Legend
was later confirmed by a frequent guest of the Ludbreg Restoration Center and
an admirer of the picturesque town, a Suisse national named Erasmus
Weddingen: playing with a map and a caliper, he managed to draw several rounds
on the map, using Ludbreg as a center.
What he noticed was that on each of
those rounds there lays a city or more of them, not only within Croatia, but all
over the world.
Nearest proofs of the legend are towns and cities closest to
Ludbreg: Varazdin, Koprivnica,
Cakovec, Varazdinske Toplice… all of them some 20 kilometers away from Ludbreg.
By
examining Ludbreg’s latitude and longitude, Weddingen found the town’s antipodes, the small south-pacific island near New Zealand by the name of –
Antipodes.
Creation of that island find it’s explanation in another one of many
Ludbreg’s legends: the one about Ludbrega…
Except
for being famous for her beauty and viticultural skills, Ludberga was a woman
of supernatural abilities, who entered the legend by banishing from Ludbreg the
Devil himself, and it was that act which later made her the patroness of Ludbreg
Township, along the St. Florian. According to the legend, the vehemence by
which Ludberga rammed the Devil into the ground was so intense that it caused an
explosion on the opposite side of the planet – even today the small island
of Antipodes remains in proof of the event, and in Ludbreg, at the very spot of
the dramatic occurrence, to this day there is a well of blazing water.
Ludbreg
is a well known sanctuary, established 500 hundred years ago to the honor of
the Precious Blood of Christ, whose miraculous appearance occurred in the chapel
of the Holy Cross, within the Batthyany castle.
Following the
Christian tradition, every place in the world connected in any way with Jesus
Christ is to be referred to as "the center of the world”, and since the
famous chalice containing the Holy Blood of Christ remains in Ludbreg even
today, it is only justified to consider Ludbreg the world’s center. T
o
the end, being the "center of the world” Ludbreg is the place where the
four basic elements combine: earth, water, fire and air.
People of Ludbreg,
being the descendants of the legendary Ludbrega, and thus excellent
wine-growers, make this combination magical by assign in to it the fifth
element: the sparkling wine of Ludbreg’s hills…
And
finally, in the center of the world are united all four elements of life: fire,
water, earth and air.
Beside that, the good fifth element: the excellent wine
from Ludbreg, which is allowed to flow only in the center of the world on
April 1 of the fountains!
