SPLIT
UNESCO declared the city Split a World Heritage Site. The heart of the city is the Old Town, which is located on the south coast of the peninsula of Split. About half of the old town is occupied by the Diocletian’s Palace, from which the city has developed. In the old town there is also the Cathedral Sveti Duje (holy Duje). It was usedas a mausoleum of the Emperor Diocletian. Facing the sea, alongthe harbor bay of the old town lays the Riva, a promenade, which isprobably the most famous landmark of the city.
TROGIR
The entire old town of Trogir has since 1997 been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site is an outstanding example of urban continuity.
The Roman city of Trogir is not only the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex on the Adriatic Sea, but throughout Eastern Europe.
In the medieval historic centre that is surrounded by ramparts, there is a preserved castle and tower, about ten churches and a series of dwellings and palaces from the periods of the Romantic, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
